The surgery

What is a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and, when needed, repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti). The result is a flatter, firmer abdomen with a better waistline.

It is one of the most requested surgeries after pregnancy or major weight loss, when the skin is left loose and exercise can no longer tighten it.

It is often combined with liposuction of the waist and flanks to better define the silhouette; the doctor tells you at your consultation whether that applies to you.

  • Excess skin

Removes the loose skin that hangs below the belly button.

  • Diastasis recti

Repairs separated muscles for a firm, flat abdomen.

  • Waist

Combined with liposuction, it better defines the waist and flanks.

  • Belly button

Repositioned so it looks natural on the new abdomen.

  • Stretch marks

Stretch marks on the skin that is removed, below the belly button, go with it.

  • After pregnancy

Helps restore the abdomen when you are not planning more pregnancies.

Is it for you?

Who is a good candidate.

  • Your weight is stable and close to your goal.
  • You are not planning more pregnancies, or can wait until your family is complete.
  • You are in good health and do not smoke, or can stop before and after surgery.
  • The skin or muscles of your abdomen do not improve with diet and exercise.

Your consultation with the doctor confirms whether a tummy tuck is the best option or whether another procedure suits you better.

Step by step

How it works.

  1. Consultation

The doctor examines your abdomen, skin and muscles, listens to what you are looking for and explains the right technique and your quote.

  2. Surgery

Performed in an operating room under anesthesia; it usually takes two to four hours. The scar sits low, hidden by underwear or a swimsuit.

  3. Recovery

You wear a compression garment for several weeks. For the first few days you walk slightly bent forward, and many people return to office work in about two weeks.

  4. Result

The abdomen looks flatter from the start and keeps defining as swelling goes down over the first months. The scar matures at around one year.

Timelines are approximate; the doctor gives you your exact plan.

FAQ

What everyone asks about tummy tucks.

If your question is not here, send it on WhatsApp and the office will reply.

Where is the scar?

Low on the abdomen, from hip to hip, planned to be hidden by underwear or a swimsuit. With proper care it fades over time.

Is it the same as liposuction?

No. Liposuction removes fat; a tummy tuck also removes excess skin and repairs separated muscles. They are often combined.

When can I go back to work?

Many people return to office work in about two weeks. Strenuous exercise is resumed later, as the doctor advises.

Can I get pregnant afterwards?

It is possible, but a pregnancy can stretch the skin and muscles again. That is why it is best to have surgery once you are not planning more pregnancies.

How much does a tummy tuck cost in Monterrey?

It depends on your case and whether it is combined with liposuction. At your consultation you receive a clear, complete quote.
